Kompai!

Music: Nineteen, Tegan and Sara

That means cheers.  Was taught that by our new awesome Japanese friends.  The whole (well some of us) amity group went out on Sunday night and were approached by a young lady named Takaya.  Awesome style, awesome hair, awesome stylish japanese friends with wicked hair…heck yes you can come out with us!

So to a bar we go.  And by bar i mean, an awesome traditional japanese bar (no karaoke yet… wednesday i will embarrase myself thanks) where we go into a seperate room (take off your shoes before you go in! Ash: dont wear your white shoes that make your feet stinky!  Alyssa has the same ones and when you have to take them off… you might be a little embarrased), and sit on the floor.

Cool: Button to call the waitress over

Notcool: Keriane keeps hitting the button by accident!

Cool:Servers here punch the order into the machine as soon as you order it from them at the table, therefore, drinks even faster…we are sooo far behind… but im brining these ideas back my friends!

Not Cool: they dont know what soda is, nor do they mix it with gin. or something…for some reason i can’t get it, and had to order gin and rikki… tasted like a tom collins.

Takaya and her friends are hilarious, and super fun to hang out with.  Takaya is willing to answer any questions we have about the culture ….”my feet, biiiiig, can i get wicked shoes here?? “  “i like your hair, where can i buy some for myself?” (a lot of japanese ladies have crazy long extensions, and apparently they are pretty cheap.  me and alyssa are totally gonna check em out.) “how do you say cheers?”…more drinks!!!  Kompai!!

Oh, man, i totally want to bring all these japanese girls to Guelph, they drink soooo fast, and i’m all like, damn, i better try to stay caught up… um, no they can’t handle their alcohol at all, but its sweet that they try so hard! ergo, they would be wicked to bring out drinking in guelph, where we go hard!

So we had a great time with them, and made plans to meet them at the gardens and castle the next day.

next day: um.. i need one more hour of sleep.

The gardens and castle is when it reeeeeally hit me (and the girls i think too).  Alyssa, Kanika and I took a 1/2 hour walk in the blistering sun to the garden and castle we heard so much about.  (ps. apparently tans arnt hot here, cause it represents lower class working inthe rice fields…but whatevah, my tan is gettin hawter by the minute! wootwoo!).  K the garden and castle were breathtaking, and there were definitely a million squeals “We are reeeally in Japan!!!!!”  We came to this wooden um… gazebo almost… not sure what else to call it. it had a roof and you sit down and put your feet in the cool stream of water that runs through it and just chill.  aaaaaaaah, so relaxing and zen like.  Met some other foreigners, guy from Texas, who worked for amity, and he was super awesome.  Also, got told by like every Japanese woman that we were super beautiful.  Aaaaaweee, *blush*.

So the castle did it for me.  I’ll post pics soon.

Falling more in love by the minute.

Alyssa and I met up with our Japanese friends again that night for a drink.  Get this… they were waiting exactly where we met them the first time, in hopes of running into us again.  How Sweet?!?!  Takaya is totally gonna take us out shopping and Karaokeing on wednesday.  She loves us.  We love her.  Their’s love all around.

did i mention i love Japan?

off to training!!! love lindzxo

Falling in Love with Japan

27 08 2007

Music: Hey there Delilah, Plain White Ts.

So, I’m not one to fall in love quickly, nor do I rush into things… but this relationship with Japan is gonna rock. Seriously, I am in love.

I love the people: They are so nice, and friendly, and try their best to communicate with you. They welcome you and send you off so pleasantly you never wanna leave, but stay and become their friend. They randomely approach you and ask to come out and party with you, order your drinks and try to keep up with our binge drinking as best they can. They love posing for pictures and never, NEVER, NEVER stop giving the peace sign. When we asked our new friend (whose name i forget… blame the Gin and Rikki) why they always do the peace sign, she had no answer… its the peace sign! duh!

I love the City: or at least the one that i have been in. It is so unbelievably clean. Seriously, no cigarette butts, even though everyone smokes, no bird poop, no random food on the ground. When i went out early in the morning to get breaky (protein bar from 7/11…guaranteed no meat :) ) there they were sweeping the sidewalks! Their are no homeless people, which means they are doing something right. Right? The streets are little and narrow and and pop out of no where and surprise you with awesome little clothing stores, vintage stores and weird “Book Stores” and much else.

I Love the Nightlife: Three words…No Last Call. Save me from myself.

I Love Everything: Being in Japan makes my heart smile :) . Every now and then Alyssa, Kanika or I will realize where we are and how amazing it is and just let out a squeal or a “Guys!!! We’re in Japan!!!”

I Love Alyssa and Kanika: The girls have been wicked to hang out with. We seem to be on similar paths and enjoy doing the same things and get along great. They make this trip even better with their company and positive attitude and willingness to do anything.

I Love the Style:Everyone looks good, trendy and put together. Everyone is pretty and cute and happy.

I Love my Hotel: Again everyone working here is friendly. The huge bathtub is also definitely super sexy. The water pressure rocks and they give you free things (like toothbrushes, new towels everyday, and neat headbands). Oh yeah, and all you can drink espresso. After working so hard to become unaddicted to caffeine last summer, my efforts have gone down the tube. I blame first of all Brucey B, who always wanted me to make him espresso every morning (you cant make someone one and not have one yourself!!! Especially when from planet bean), Chris Marlow who wanted a pot of coffee every hour of the day when he was in Guelph, and then wanted to go out for one downtown as well, and last, the Japanese hotel that has instant and dilicious espresso. Oh and my view from the 12th floor rocks.

I Love the Temperature: At least for the city i am in now, hot, humid, not too too smoggy. Not ready for fall yet, so the heat makes me happy!

Do I Love Amity? Not sure yet, training starts tomorow. But once in a while the girls and I remember that we are here for a job… and not just getting paid for having a sweet time. I think it will be ok though, cause Japanese Children are aaaadorable. It is ridiculous…i’m sure the novelty will wear off when i’m spending everyday with them …children are children after all…

heres too Japan! love, lindzxo

August 25, 2007: The Beginning

24 08 2007

Now that i am over the hours upon hours of travelling, I can sit down open my laptop (which has no internet connection and i’m too scared to call the front desk again, since no one speaks any english …. no cleaningin the morning please… yes cleaning is from 930 to 4… nono, noooo cleaning… domo arigato!  Lets hope no asians in my room in the morning…aaaawkward.)

Ok, so i figured out the internet.  Awesome.  (the cord was right beside me… duuh).

So the plane ride was looooooooooooong and crazy. The last two hours were the worst when my legs started twitching and going crazy… stretching in the aisle isnt the coolest thing… but downward dog i went.

Getting hit on by asians?  Totally… just flash a smile, and i’ve made their day!  Haha.  First guy was in the airplane (not even in japan yet!!!)  He followed me to the bathroom and told me that he’d show me  a good time in japan… yeah i bet you would.  I’m also getting chairs randomely  pulled out for me, even when i dont wanna sit.  But its ok, cause asians are adoooorable!!!  It’s like i’m constantly surrounded by puppies!  Haha.  Sorry, but i get stared at a lot, so i’m sure it’s ok for me to say that.

Nick on the plane after me and Alyssa “complain” about boys back at home: “It’s ok girls, you’ll totally get hit on by asian guys and have tonnes of asian boyfriends.”

Alyssa and I:”No way… not attracted to asians, don’t speak japanese… sizing issues … blahblahblah.”

16 hours later in the airport eating weird food sitting in the cool section (obviously, the smoking section) around all these awesome trendy asian teens:

Alyssa: These are the coolest people I have ever seen”

Lindzy:”Let’s pick our faveorite!”

We all pick our faveorite and then Alyssa and Lindzy: “Totally getting myself a sweet trendy asian bf.”

So, bad part:  Ordered something… some noodle soup… got random chunks of beef in it… blaaah…. Ash: Good effing luck.

Anyways finally get out of the airport… and into a three hour bus ride (yes this is after my five hour flight to Van—> two hour stopover—>11 hour flight to Japan—>three hour wait in airport and no food, people don’t dig vegetarians).

And then fiiiiiiiiiinally!  Into Okayama, a real city…guys… it looks like Toronto… but cleaner.

I’m really looking forward to going to my real apartment and city.  Alyssa, Kanika, Nick and I (the Canadians) are going to try to go get cell phones tomorow, maybe head into Osaka, if we can figure it out.  Lots of grunting and pointing and Arigato!  going on.  the rest of the trainees… are… american…

i look like hell, im going to go shower.

ps. i’m not as Godzilla like as i thought i would be!  And some asians are chuby!!!

oh yeah… and thanks to all who came to my going away parties!!!  You are all amazing and i miss you like crazy!
